How very diplomatic of you Alasdair. Using the term "shot a line" instead of what I, or others would say is very tactful, but you're absolutely correct. Even my elderly mother, 86, no longer believes anything she hears on the 1 o'clock news. As soon as the headlines are finished she switches off because, as she says, the rest is just drivel. Now Alasdair we have a failed coup in Democratic Republic of Congo with Washington-based US citizens arrested. It just so happens that the Kinshasa government is mad keen on joining the BRICS and the DRC coincidentally happens to have seriously large gold production numbers - AngloAshanti and Barrick operations - and seriously untapped reserves.
Some, put out of joint noses, will be looking for revenge no doubt which will have, as mentioned above, the hallmark of a certain "you know who" all over it. Maybe they won't even bother to try and make it look like someone else did it. Who knows, but history tells us something reckless is coming, when the least expect it, to those who only wanted a fairer deal for their people without being constantly shafted. Surely nothing will happen whilst so many eyes are watching. No one is that stupid are they🤔
