MacleodFinance
Helping others understand money, credit and economics in the context of today's geopolitics.
Why I’m setting up a new Substack channel called MacleodFinance
Now that gold appears to be heading north of $2000 convincingly and it is increasingly obvious that the major currencies are in trouble, I firmly believe it is time to redouble my efforts to inform the widest possible audience of the dangers to the world’s dollar-based currency system. I intend to use social media, a YouTube channel, and other industry relationships to achieve this objective. It also requires me to be closer to my readership than I am as Head of Research at Goldmoney.
Initially, I will be posting my weekly Goldmoney articles at MacleodFinance, free to subscribers. Paid subscribers will receive “inside” information on gold, currencies, and geopolitics culled from various sources — all relevant to wealth preservation in these difficult times. Paid subscribers can also join a “chat” community, asking questions and swapping views. This is a key part of promoting an understanding of money and how individuals can protect their wealth in the difficult times ahead.
From 1st February, I shall be no longer posting my in-depth articles at Goldmoney though I will still be writing for them regularly and assisting with their marketing. For the avoidance of doubt, I remain committed to Goldmoney as Head of Research, but I will be continuing with my in-depth analysis in economics, money, credit, geopolitics, and gold on Substack under the MacleodFinance banner instead.
This new arrangement will allow me to address these topics from a truly independent standpoint. I plan to build a community of ssubscribers seeking a better understanding of the issues above, and allowing us all to interact with comments, questions, and debate.
I recognise that I have audiences perhaps best served by two levels of membership, one free and one paid. The free level will have brief summaries of informative articles only available in full to paid members. There will also be podcasts linked to my interviews on other channels. The free category will receive emails notifying them of relevant content.
Paying subscribers will access everything that free membership gets, plus in-depth articles, planned to be once a week after I have reduced my commitments to Goldmoney. It is this category which can interact with me and other paid-up subscribers, asking questions, clarifications, and commenting. They can either post in their own name or by pseudonym. I hope this category will build into a thriving community of like-minded people.
There will also be selective alerts on important developments not covered in the press, to be issued sparingly rather than indiscriminately to paying subscribers. This service commences now.
That is the plan. I invite comments and suggestions generally. Thank you for your patience in reading this far! And I very much look forward to your feedback, and hopefully your support as a subscriber.
Kind regards
Alasdair Macleod
Hi Bert
Thank you for your comments. My interest in history comes from reading. I think we all find that it is after school that interests and learning truly develop! The Bank of Amsterdam story was not unique, but is often misinterpreted as a better banking model than fractional reserve banking. In fact, like Hamburg Amsterdam was a commercial centre where many different currencies ended up. The Bank's business was to take them in by weight and credit depositors with the proceeds, drawable in specie.
I find history can be useful context for demonstrating economic and monetary theory!
Congratulations on this new venture, Mr Macleod, and thank you for taking the trouble. Much appreciated!
